What disconnection and connection involve

A dishwasher is fixed into the cabinets and connected to the water supply and drain under the sink. When disconnecting it we shut off the water, remove the hoses and fixings, cap the drain connection and pull the machine out of the cabinets. No open connection is left behind, and the kitchen can be used normally even though the dishwasher space is empty.

At your new home we connect the dishwasher to water and drain, fit it into the cabinets and test it. The washing machine's inlet hose is connected to its valve and the drain hose to the floor drain or the washing machine outlet on the trap, and then the machine is tested.

You can often disconnect the washing machine yourself

Disconnecting a washing machine is usually simple enough to do yourself: close the machine's valve, unscrew the inlet hose and lift the drain hose out of the floor drain or outlet. Empty the hoses into a bucket and move them together with the machine.

If you still have the machine's transport bolts, fit them before the move as the user manual describes. They protect the drum during transport. If the valve is stuck or leaking, do not force it – mention it in your quote request so it can be replaced during the same visit.

Check the connections at the new home

Find out in advance whether there is a valve under the sink and a dishwasher outlet on the trap, and whether the washing machine has its own valve and somewhere for the drain hose. If connections are missing, they can usually be added during the same visit. Extra parts are charged separately.

Many housing companies and insurers require a leak tray under the dishwasher. A move is a good time to check whether your new home has one – read more in our article on dishwasher leak trays.

Rented flats and housing companies

When moving out of a rented flat, check your tenancy agreement to see whose dishwasher it is. If it belongs to the flat, it stays. If you take your own machine, the connection left behind is capped so that the next resident can use the kitchen normally.

Connecting a similar machine to existing connections does not usually require a renovation notice to the housing company, but adding a new connection may. Read more about the renovation notice.

Timing and price

Disconnect a day or two before moving day so that the machines are ready to be carried out when the van arrives. Connection at the new home can be done on moving day or later. If you give both addresses and your preferred dates in the same quote request, we can agree both visits at once.

Dishwasher disconnection costs €47.06, installation at the new home €125.50 and washing machine connection €78.44. Prices include 25.5% VAT. Installing or disconnecting an appliance on its own does not qualify for the household tax credit.

If you also need removal help, you can book the move from our partner Mover.fi. Mention both jobs at once, and the disconnection, transport and connection are planned on the same schedule. For the whole timeline, see our moving checklist.

FAQ · Appliances when moving

Frequently asked questions

How much do dishwasher disconnection and connection cost?

Disconnection costs €47.06 and installation at the new home €125.50. Connecting a washing machine costs €78.44. Prices include 25.5% VAT, and extra fittings and hoses are charged separately.

Can disconnection and connection be on different days?

Yes. Disconnection is usually done before moving day and connection once the machines are at the new home. Give your preferred dates in the quote request and we will arrange both visits.

Do moving connections qualify for the household tax credit?

No. According to the Finnish Tax Administration, installing an appliance on its own does not qualify. The credit can only cover installation that is part of a wider renovation. Check the current rules on vero.fi.

What if the new flat has no dishwasher connection?

Then a valve is needed under the sink and an outlet for the drain hose on the trap. They can usually be added during the same visit, and the parts are charged separately. Send a photo of the sink cabinet so we can see in advance what is needed.

Do you also connect the fridge and cooker?

A fridge and a cooker are electrical appliances, so no plumber is needed. You can plug in an appliance with a plug yourself; a fixed electrical connection is made by an electrician.
