Household tax credit

How the household tax credit works

The household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) lets you deduct part of the labour cost from your taxes. It covers labour only – not materials, devices or travel costs.

  • 35%of the labour cost (incl. VAT)
  • €150deductible (omavastuu) per person per year
  • €1,600maximum credit per person per year

Example

You have already used your deductible this year and order a toilet replacement (€235.31). The estimated credit is 35% × €235.31 = €82.36.

If you have not used the deductible yet, it is subtracted first. For a single small job the credit can therefore be zero – the calculator takes this into account.

  • The credit, the deductible and the maximum are personal. Spouses can each claim the credit for the share they paid. If one spouse’s credit exceeds the maximum, the excess is transferred to the other spouse.
  • Installing an appliance, such as a dishwasher or washing machine, as a separate job does not qualify – only as part of a larger renovation.
  • Work that is the housing company’s (taloyhtiö) responsibility does not qualify, even if the shareholder pays for it. Extra work you order yourself and pay directly to the contractor can qualify.
  • You can claim the credit on your tax card (verokortti) during the year or later in your pre-completed tax return.
  • The company doing the work must be in the prepayment register (ennakkoperintärekisteri).
  • The Finnish government has proposed a temporary increase for 2026–2027 (40% of labour, up to €2,100). It is still a proposal – check the current rules on vero.fi.

FAQ · Prices

Questions about prices

What does the listed price include?

The price covers the installation work in question and includes 25.5% VAT (ALV). For example, installing and connecting a dishwasher costs €125.50 and installing or replacing a toilet €235.31. Work that is not on the price list is quoted individually.

Are extra fittings and hoses charged separately?

Yes. If the job needs, for example, a longer hose, an adapter or an extra fitting, the parts are charged on top of the installation price. Tell us about the site in advance or send a photo, so the parts can be assessed before the visit.

Can I get the household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys)?

Usually yes for the labour, as long as the work is not the housing company’s responsibility. The credit is currently 35% of the labour cost (incl. VAT), with a €150 deductible (omavastuu) and a maximum of €1,600 per person per year. Materials, devices and travel costs do not qualify, and installing an appliance as a separate job does not qualify either. The company doing the work must be in the prepayment register (ennakkoperintärekisteri). The government has proposed a temporary increase for 2026–2027 – it is only a proposal, so check the current rules on vero.fi. You can estimate your credit with the price calculator.

Can I buy the appliance or fixture myself?

Yes. We also install a dishwasher, washing machine, faucet, sink or toilet that you have bought yourself. Keep the manufacturer’s installation instructions and the parts that came with it, so the installation can be done in one visit.

How is the price set for jobs that are not on the price list?

For radiator, towel warmer and pipe renovations, for example, the price depends on the site: the pipe routes, the materials and the scope of the work. Tell us about the site and send photos, and you get a price estimate before the work starts.

Is the labour shown separately on the invoice?

Yes. For the household tax credit, the invoice itemises the labour, the materials and the VAT. Keep the invoice and the payment receipt – you may need them when you claim the credit.
