Toilet installation and replacement
Is your old toilet leaking, flushing poorly or simply worn out? We install a new toilet for a fixed price of €235.31, which includes VAT. You can buy the toilet yourself from any shop you like.
Incl. 25.5% VAT · extra fittings and hoses separately
What toilet replacement involves
The job starts by shutting off the water and emptying the cistern. The old toilet is detached from the floor and the drain, and then we check the condition of the drain connection and the fixing points in the floor.
The new toilet is put in place, connected to the drain and fixed to the floor according to the manufacturer's instructions. The toilet must sit firmly, because a wobbly toilet strains the drain connection, which can start leaking over time.
Finally, the water supply is connected, the fill valve is adjusted and the flush is tested several times. If the toilet's own shut-off valve is stiff or seeping, it is worth replacing it at the same time, so the water does not need to be turned off again later.
The price and what it includes
Installing or replacing a standard floor-mounted toilet costs €235.31. The price includes 25.5% VAT (ALV) and the steps described above. The toilet itself is not included.
Extra fittings and hoses, such as a new connection hose or a pan connector for the drain, are charged separately. If anything else comes up during the job, such as a brittle drain connection in an older building, we agree it with you before going ahead. You will find all our fixed prices on the prices page.
Taking away the old toilet is agreed when you book. You can claim the household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) for the labour part, but materials are not deductible. Our article on toilet replacement cost explains what the fixed price covers and when extra costs can arise.
Floor-mounted or wall-hung toilet?
Before you buy a new toilet, check whether the drain of your current toilet goes into the floor or into the wall. A toilet with an S-trap suits a floor outlet and one with a P-trap suits a wall outlet, and some models work with both. Small differences in measurements can often be bridged with a pan connector.
Compare the size of the base as well. If the new toilet has a smaller base than the old one, marks or fixing holes from the old toilet may be left visible on the floor. In a small toilet room, also check the depth of the toilet so there is enough space in front of the door.
A wall-hung toilet, with its cistern and frame inside the wall or in a boxed-in casing, is a considerably bigger job. We price it as a quote once we have seen the site or photos of it. If the wall has to be opened, wet-room waterproofing and tiling are done by specialists.
Before you book a replacement
Not every problem calls for a new toilet. If the toilet keeps running or the cistern fills slowly, the fault is often in the fill valve or flush mechanism, and it can be repaired as a small plumbing job.
Replacement makes sense when the porcelain is cracked, the toilet leaks from the base or spare parts are no longer available. An old toilet often uses considerably more water per flush than a new dual-flush model, which shows on your water bill if water is billed by consumption.
If you live in a housing company (taloyhtiö), it is worth notifying it in advance, as many housing companies require a renovation notice (muutostyöilmoitus) for a toilet replacement. The housing company's division of responsibilities table (vastuunjakotaulukko) shows whether the replacement is the flat owner's or the company's responsibility. Usually the toilet's own shut-off valve is enough to cut the water, but if there isn't one or it does not hold, the shut-off is arranged with the maintenance company (huoltoyhtiö). Our guide to the renovation notice explains the process.

FAQ · Toilet
Frequently asked questions
How much does toilet replacement cost?
Installing or replacing a standard floor-mounted toilet costs €235.31, including 25.5% VAT. Any extra fittings and hoses needed are charged separately, and the toilet itself is not included in the price. For wall-hung toilets we give a quote, because the scope of the work varies from one home to another.
Can I buy the toilet myself?
Yes. Choose a toilet from any DIY store or online shop and we will install it. Before buying, check whether your current drain goes into the floor or the wall, and choose a toilet with a trap type that fits. If you are unsure, send a photo of your current toilet and its connections and we will look at it together.
Do you also install wall-hung toilets?
Yes, but we price them as a quote. A wall-hung toilet is a bigger job than replacing a floor-mounted one, because the frame and cistern are installed inside the wall or in a casing. In your quote request, tell us whether only the pan is being replaced on the existing frame or whether it is a completely new installation. Wet-room waterproofing and tiling are done by specialists.
Do I need to tell my housing company about a toilet replacement?
Many housing companies (taloyhtiö) require a renovation notice (muutostyöilmoitus) even for a toilet replacement, because the work involves the drain connection. The housing company's division of responsibilities table also shows whether the replacement is the flat owner's or the company's responsibility. Check the practice with your property manager well before the installation day so the work is not delayed.
Can I get the household tax credit for a toilet replacement?
You can claim the household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) for the labour part, as long as the replacement is your responsibility rather than the housing company's. The deduction is currently 35% of the labour cost, with an annual threshold (omavastuu) of €150 per person. On its own, a toilet replacement usually gives no deduction because of the threshold, but other deductible work paid for in the same year is added together. Materials, such as the toilet and fittings, are not deductible. The government has proposed a temporary increase for 2026–2027, so check the rules currently in force on the Finnish Tax Administration's website (vero.fi).
What happens to the old toilet?
Taking away the old toilet is agreed separately, so let us know what you would like when you book. You can also take it to your nearest waste station yourself. Before you do, check the waste station's website to see how porcelain sanitary ware is accepted and whether there is a charge.
