A large bilingual municipality west of Espoo

Kirkkonummi – Kyrkslätt in Swedish – is a bilingual municipality west of Espoo, and many places have two names: Upinniemi is Obbnäs and Porkkala is Porkala. The largest built-up area is the centre, but the municipality also covers Masala and Sundsberg near the Espoo border, Veikkola in the north, the Porkkala and Upinniemi peninsulas in the south and a long coastline with an archipelago.

Homes vary as much as the landscape. The centre and Masala have apartment buildings and terraced houses (rivitalo) owned by housing companies (taloyhtiö), while Veikkola has many detached houses of different ages. Further out, in the villages and on the coast, most buildings are detached houses, farmhouses and summer cottages.

In a housing company, the shared pipes and the heating are the company's responsibility, and changes to wet rooms need a renovation notice (muutostyöilmoitus) – see our renovation notice guide. In a detached house you make the decisions, but you are also responsible for all the pipework on your plot.

Mains water or a private well

Built-up areas are generally connected to the municipal water and sewer network. In the villages and on the coast, some properties are connected to a network run by a water cooperative (vesiosuuskunta), and some get their water from a private well (kaivo). Wastewater is then often treated on the property; the municipality's environmental protection authority can tell you which rules apply.

If your house has a well, the water is supplied by your own pump, usually with a pressure tank. Iron, manganese or hard water can clog tap aerators and leave limescale on fixtures, so tell us when you book if the water is treated or known to be hard – it affects the choice of tap and appliance. A well and a mains supply must never be connected to each other.

Summer cottages on the coast

Many summer cottages along the coast and on the islands have simple pipework that is drained for the winter. Fixtures for an unheated cottage should be easy to drain, so let us know when you book whether the building is used in winter. If the toilet drains into a sealed holding tank, a low-flush model means the tank needs emptying less often.

If the cottage is on an island without a road connection, mention it in your quote request so that the practical arrangements can be agreed in advance. The same applies to plots reached by a shared private road.

If a pipe has frozen and cracked over the winter, our guide to a water leak at home covers the first steps. Small repairs, such as a leaking valve or a dripping tap, are part of our small plumbing jobs.

Prices and the household tax credit

Washing machine installation costs €78.44, dishwasher installation €125.50, toilet installation €235.31 and tap (faucet) replacement €125.50. Prices include 25.5% VAT (ALV), and extra fittings and hoses are charged separately; see the full price list.

The labour part of work at your home or holiday home can qualify for the household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys), currently 35% of the labour cost with an annual threshold (omavastuu) of €150 per person. Materials and appliances are not deductible, installing an appliance as a separate job doesn't qualify, and work that is the housing company's responsibility doesn't count. The government has proposed a temporary increase for 2026–2027, so check the current terms on vero.fi.

Good to know in Kirkkonummi

  • Know your water source

When you book, tell us whether the house is on the municipal network, a water cooperative's network or its own well, and where the pump and pressure tank are. Shutting off the water and restoring the pressure goes more smoothly when that's known in advance.

  • Winterise the cottage in time

If the cottage isn't heated in winter, drain the pipes, traps and water heater before the frosts. A frozen pipe can burst, and the damage is often only noticed in spring when the water is turned back on.

  • Explain how to reach the plot

Satnavs don't always find rural driveways or shared private roads. Give clear directions or a landmark in your quote request – and for an island cottage, explain how the site is reached.

FAQ · Kirkkonummi

Frequently asked questions

Do you install fixtures in houses with a private well?

Yes. The installation itself is the same as in a house on the mains; the difference is that the water is shut off and the pressure restored through the house's own pump and pressure tank. If the water is treated, hard or high in iron, let us know in advance, as it affects which tap or shower mixer is a sensible choice.

Can I claim the household tax credit for work at my summer cottage?

Yes. The household tax credit (kotitalousvähennys) also applies to the labour part of work at a holiday home that you use yourself. Materials are not deductible, and the company doing the work must be in the prepayment register (ennakkoperintärekisteri). The rate, threshold and maximum can change from year to year, so check the current terms on vero.fi before you do any calculations.

Do I need a renovation notice in a terraced house in Masala or the centre?

If the terraced house belongs to a housing company (taloyhtiö), moving pipes or adding connections needs a renovation notice (muutostyöilmoitus) before the work. Replacing a tap or toilet in the same place usually needs less, but many companies still want to be told about all wet-room work. Check your company's practice with the property manager (isännöitsijä).

Do you work in all parts of Kirkkonummi?

Yes. Solo-putkimies serves the whole municipality, from the centre and Masala to Veikkola, Kantvik and the Porkkala peninsula. In your quote request, give the address – and for rural or island sites, directions – and we'll agree a time. We also work in Espoo and the rest of our service area.
